Nathan Rooy

Hi. I’m Nathan.

This site is essentially the result of those weird questions I find myself wondering about when I should be doing more productive things. Since most of the questions require a considerable amount of work to answer, I post them here to save other people the time. Most of the posts are completed using a combination of open source tools and scripts I write myself. The topics usually range from machine learning and CFD to data analysis and urban design. I really like biking, rock climbing, camping, street art, photography, and world travel so their will probably be a fair amount of that as well. My long term goal with this project is to become better at writing, teaching, and presenting technical topics.

I started out my professional career as a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) engineer doing aerodynamic design, shape optimization, and validation within the motorsport industry. Designing race cars was a childhood dream and a lot of fun but then I discovered the areas of machine learning and data science. I now work in a tech startup with four other people where I develop deep learning models that harness social media data to create maps for travel, real estate, and automotive applications. I have a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Cincinnati (Go Bearcats!) and an M.S. in Motorsport Engineering from Cranfield University in England.

Thanks for visiting.
